The Places You Must Visit If You Are Going To Lisbon

If you are planning to visit Portugal, be prepared for lots of walking and, most importantly, delicious food. Portugal is known for its affordable and tasty cuisine, with a strong emphasis on seafood. I highly recommend trying cod, which is a local speciality. When it comes to dining out, it’s important to do research and seek out local restaurants for the most authentic Portuguese cuisine.

In addition to the food, there are many beautiful places and landscapes to explore in Portugal. It may be hard to choose which ones to visit, but you can’t go wrong with the stunning sights on offer. The weather is generally good between March and September, but it’s best to avoid visiting in April due to the high likelihood of rain. Comfortable shoes are a must, especially if you’re planning to explore the centre of Lisbon.

Finally, I’ll leave you with some amazing places and landscapes to add to your itinerary. Keep an eye out for our future posts, as more recommendations are coming!

  • Sintra: It is only a 60 minute train ride from the city centre, and yet it is a hidden gem surrounded by nature. People come here to escape and find peace. It is truly a magical place.
  • Guincho: It takes around 108 minutes by train from the city centre to get to Guincho Beach, which is one of the most beautiful beaches in Lisbon. If you’re looking for a bite to eat, Casa da Guia is a great option as it offers stunning views of the beach landscape.
  • Portinho da Arrábida: This will take around an hour to get there, and you may need to take a bus. However, it is definitely worth it. If you plan to visit during summer or hot weather, it’s advisable to go early in the morning and remember to bring your bikini as the beaches are amazing. Also, do not forget to try the grilled fish, it’s delicious!
  • Panorâmico de Monsanto: It takes only 10 minutes to reach this place from the city centre, and I believe taking the bus would be the most convenient transportation option. This place offers a breathtaking view of the entire city. The Panorâmico used to be an old restaurant, but it was left abandoned and later transformed into a panoramic spot.
  • Belém – Pastéis de Belém: Belém is a beautiful place with plenty of things to do and lots of amazing food to try. The Pastéis de Belém, also known as Portuguese Custard Tarts, are a must-try! This is where the custard tarts were first invented and it’s a place full of history. You can enjoy freshly made custard tarts here. My advice is to have more than one and take some with you because Pastéis de Belém are never enough! ·
  • Alfama – Casas de Fado: Alfama is a neighbourhood in Lisbon known for its rich Portuguese culture. The area is home to many Casas de Fado where you can experience the traditional Portuguese music called Fado while enjoying delicious food and exquisite wine. It’s a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and have a memorable experience.
  • Museu do Azulejo: The National Tile Museum in Lisbon is a stunning museum that has a strong connection to the use of tiles. A significant part of the city’s architecture features tiles both inside and outside buildings and houses, which is a significant aspect of Portuguese culture. The country is well-known for its diverse range of tiles, making it an essential part of its heritage.
  • Miradouro da Graça: This is a popular tourist spot where you can enjoy a panoramic view of Lisbon. Even taking a walk around the area, you will find beautiful streets.
  • Terreiro do Paço: This is one of the most well-known places in Lisbon and is probably already on your itinerary. It’s definitely worth a visit.
  • Lx Factory: It’s a market located 10 minutes away from the city centre in Alcântara. If you are fond of food, culture, and good music, then you should definitely visit LX Factory. This place is considered a trendy spot and is filled with positive energy.
